We came together because of our kids,
we stay together because of our community.

As PCWL begins its 15th year of service to our community, we welcome a new Executive Board for our organization this year and say farewell with loads of thanks to a few of our former Board members. We are grateful for the time and effort you have put into giving back to your community for another successful PCWL year, for your dedication, creativeness and friendship! Exiting Board members this year are Angie Bullard, Stefani Newberry and Rhonda Sinz. Your hours of work and planning have steered us through an eventful year!

New members joining the 2024-2025 board are Lisa Gesin, Shanna Sisson and Susan Mandell. Welcome to the crew and we look forward to working side-by-side to grow our organization and continue its important traditions! A listing of the entire Executive Board can be found HERE!

YEARS AND COUNTING!

As another PCWL year ends, a huge milestone begins for our organization .... the beginning of 15 years of community support for Pearce area schools!  Our moms have made a difference in lives with donations of school supplies, troop care items, hunger relief, toys for children, Pearce Mum Store creations, tutoring, volunteer hours and tens of thousands of dollars in scholarships.  This is just a small sample of the amazing community service shared by our members in addition to continuing lifelong friendships with moms that have shared a lot of Pearce High School memories together with their graduates.

Not just charity and support, friendship is key as well, with our members participating in book club, dinners together (even dinner clubs), social gatherings and even classes on mahjong (one of many examples).

We would LOVE to have you join us as our organization continues its mission to serve this community in many ways!  If your last Pearce High school student is going into their senior year -- OR -- if all of your Pearce High school students have graduated, this is a wonderful way to stay involved!  Please contact our Membership Chairperson, Heather Novak or you can sign-up or renew at Member Signup / Information!

Pearce Community Women's League (PCWL) was created in 2010 by a group of very involved moms whose children had recently or already graduated from JJ Pearce. It was formed for the purpose of staying involved in our RISD community of schools as well as a social outlet for keeping in touch with so many school-related activities in which they had been involved (i.e. PTA, booster clubs, athletic functions). To date PCWL has provided hundreds of thousands of dollars in scholarships to deserving students from the JJ Pearce area as well as a thriving social base with many types of activities ranging from monthly dinner gatherings, to book club, Troop care and various casual social events. If your children have graduated from JJ Pearce or are seniors this year, we would love to have you join our members in their fun and productive activities in your off-time! Please email our Membership Chairperson,Heather Novak, for further information!

Below are some fun moments captured at recent events!

A festive PCWL Holiday Party was held on December 5 at The Fifth: Fireside Patio and Bar in Richardson. It was also the culmination of toy collection to be donated to many students attending our Pearce area elementary schools. Toys were delivered the last week of school before the holidays to make sure Santa makes a timely visit! Pictured is our PCWL Santas delivering to Carolyn Bukhair Elementary staff.

Twice a year, our PCWL ladies gather to assemble goodie boxes for our Troops - whether stationed in the United States borders or located overseas. It is a fun and social evening for our members and the resulting stuffed boxes will be a welcome joy to those recipients.

The boxes contain donated new items from many members that include personal hygiene goods, snacks, games, puzzles, tea, coffee, writing paper, pens, insect repellant, hand warmers, flashlights and health items.  Also inserted into each box are precious thank you and appreciation cards produced by Pearce-area elementary students as well as custom made cards by some of our members.

KYO CHU AND FAMILY MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP FUND

On Saturday, May 6th, Cindy, Kyu, William and James Cho visited the Allen outlet mall together in North Texas. William had just celebrated his 6th birthday 4 days prior and little James was 3. An afternoon that should have been filled with light, love and celebration unfortunately was cut short by a mass shooting massacre that left 8 victims dead.

Cindy, Kyu and three year old James were among those victims that tragically lost their lives.

Kyu was a graduate of JJ Pearce High School and is fondly remembered as a great student, outstanding musician, and a friend to all. The JJ Pearce Class of 1973 is celebrating their 50-year Class Reunion the weekend of September 14 and have created a scholarship honoring Kyu’s memory and his legacy. The Pearce Community Woman’s League is coordinating donations and will present scholarships to deserving JJP students.

Kyu, who worked as an immigration attorney at Porter Legal Group, was born in South Korea and raised in Dallas, according to the law firm’s website, which said he had “a deep pride, respect, and appreciation for the American Dream.” He graduated with his bachelor's degree from the University of Massachusetts-Amherst in 2007, then graduated in 2010 from the Ave Maria School of Law in Florida.

Donations for scholarships in honor and memory of Pearce's graduate, Kyu Cho and family can be made online at the Pearce Women's Club donation website link below:

ANNUAL KICK OFF DINNER!

PCWL held their annual kickoff dinner at Aboca's Restaurant in mid-August. President Marilyn Hall and members of the retiring board were introduced and thanked for their dedication and service during a difficult pandemic time and the incoming new board was introduced.

It was emphasized by our new President, Betsy Bennington, that the theme of this year would be to Rediscover and Rejuvenate. Many fun opportunities are ahead for the fall and spring to bring us back together for social and philanthropic activities. Anyone who lives in the Pearce feeder pattern and/or have children who graduated from Pearce (youngest child in the family has to have graduated) is welcome to become a member of PCWL. You will have the opportunity to have fun with many Pearce moms you have met through the years. Contact our Membership Chairperson, Heather Novak Heather Novak for further information!

We also welcome monetary donations to our scholarship funds! Since our 2010 inception, we have provided nearly a half a million dollars in scholarships to Pearce students due to our community's generosity!  You can donate at this secure link:  General Donations

The final week of July is always a good time to perform the Target shopping excursion that is offered by the Legacy Scholarships. Above, we had an early morning meet-up with our winners, Ashley Camp, McKinley Curry, Maya Kessebaum and Joey Nagus. All of the college-bound students spent at least an hour shopping with our PCWL volunteer moms, Leslie McFarlane, Debbie Olschwanger, Corey Pratt and Shanna Sisson who were there to assist, provide input and advice as necessary and encourage our eager winners. Also assisting and making sure each winner was able to take advantage of every discount available for their goods was one of our PCWL Scholarship chairs, Lisa Albert. All the best to each of our scholarship winners this year and thank you to our dedicated volunteer moms!

PCWL Begins Its 14th Year of Service and Fun!

As the 2022-2023 PCWL year closes, we are so grateful to our members for their continuing support of the mission set out for Pearce Community Women’s League back in 2010 by our founding members. We have made a difference in many lives, both charitable and social and will continue to do so as long as we have the enthusiasm and support of our Pearce community!

Our new board members will begin to take charge (or resume their continuing duties) now that July is here! Thank each of you for volunteering to once again make a difference in your community. Don’t forget, it is never too late to join PCWL or renew your membership if it has slipped your mind. If you have any membership questions, don’t hesitate to contact our Membership Chairperson, Heather Novak or you can sign-up or renew at Member Signup / Information

Thank you to our generous PCWL members for the food pantry donations for our JJ Pearce area schools. We had some donations delivered in person by our own Stefani Newberry, who led the food pantry drive for PCWL. We also had numerous donations delivered from online shopping through your Amazon accounts. We have made a difference for many children through this food drive -- and once again thank you for taking the time to participate in this important charitable event!
